At times I get asked by cients to view all of the photos taken, or the ‘reel’ of the photo shoot. I wanted to explain why this is sometimes not possible.

A typical photo shoot consists of taking hundreds of shots with only the best shots ending up as a ‘final’.

When I shoot a project I am constantly looking for the best angles that will showcase the building and project. Muiltiple shots from various locations are taken to get the best angle; some may be an eye level, others lower to the ground etc. Some angles may need to be re-shot because something was in frame that should not have been.

Multiple exposures of a single scene are taken in order to extract the best detail and light for the shot. Many ‘final’ images are result of ‘blending’ multiple shot that have been ‘bracketed’ at different exposures to get the perfect photographs.

Many hours are spent in post production to correct and edit images. In fact, many people do not realise that more time is spent in post production than that of the actual photo shoot.

So, most of the actual photographic images from a photo shoot are discarded as they are not suitable or are not of high enough quality. The final images (as supplied to the client) are the very best of the best which have had many hours of post production to achieve a spectacular photograph.

Unlike some photographers who charge for the photo shoot and a minimum number of final photographs, I charge per photographic image which are purchased and downloaded via my online gallery and store.

Charging per individual photographic image allows the client to purchase the best photographs from the photo shoot.
